In recent months, the international community, particularly through reports from the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Javaid Rehman, has received alarming reports about the rising number of executions in Iran. Despite global outrage, Iranian authorities continue to implement the death penalty, often disregarding international legal standards.
Our goal is to apply pressure on the Iranian regime to stop the death penalty and promote human rights compliance through targeted legal campaigns and conferences in Geneva, particularly within the framework of the United Nations.
Planned actions to achieve this goal:
- Increasing International Pressure: Mobilizing the international community to apply pressure on Iran through legal and diplomatic means.
- Promoting the Rule of Law: Raising awareness and support for international legal standards to end the practice of the death penalty in Iran.
- Support from International Experts: Involving leading jurists and human rights experts in campaigns and conferences to strengthen the legal argument against the death penalty.
- Creation and Dissemination of Legal Opinions: Developing and disseminating legal opinions that document Iran’s violations of international human rights standards.
- Petitions and Legal Actions: Filing petitions and legal actions with international courts and organizations to initiate legal steps against the continuation of executions.
- Organizing Conferences in Geneva: Hosting high-level conferences at the United Nations in Geneva to draw international attention to the executions in Iran.
- Participation of Experts: Inviting leading jurists, human rights experts, and UN representatives to strengthen legal arguments and international support against the death penalty.
- Collaboration with UN Bodies: Working more closely with UN bodies, particularly the Human Rights Council, to put the death penalty in Iran on the international agenda.
- Publication of Reports: Creating and publishing reports in collaboration with international media to raise global awareness.
- Building Networks: Establishing networks between international NGOs, bar associations, and academic institutions to promote joint actions against the death penalty.
Expected outcomes and benefits:
- Increased International Attention: A significant increase in global attention to executions in Iran, particularly through media coverage and legal opinions.
- Pressure on the Iranian Regime: Strengthened international pressure on Iran to reconsider its death penalty practices and fulfill its international human rights obligations.
- Stronger Legal Arguments: Development and promotion of a solid legal argument against the death penalty, supported by international experts and legal campaigns.
- Conference Costs: Covering the costs of organizing and conducting conferences in Geneva, including travel and accommodation expenses for international experts.
