Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor rights activist and political prisoner at Lakan Prison in the city of Rasht, has been charged with so-called “Baghi” (apostasy from religious authority) by the court of Mullah Hakim Baghiran—a charge punishable by death under the religious-fundamentalist dictatorship.
Sharifeh has endured prolonged physical and psychological torture and has been denied contact with her family and children in an attempt to force a confession.
We appeal to the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, the UN Commission of Inquiry, and the UN Rapporteur on violence against women to take immediate action to secure the release of Sharifeh Mohammadi.
We continue to use all our resources to amplify the voice of the Iranian people, particularly women and youth, within the global community. Our efforts aim to apply international pressure to stop executions, repression, and all other inhumane actions of this kind in Iran.
