On December 17, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted its 71st resolution condemning the widespread and systematic human rights violations committed by the Iranian regime. This resolution was passed with 80 votes in favor, 27 against, and 65 abstentions.
The resolution highlights critical concerns, including the extensive and unlawful use of the death penalty, arbitrary detentions, torture, suppression of peaceful protests, and severe discrimination against women and ethnic and religious minorities.
Moreover, it expresses grave concerns about the deplorable conditions in Iranian prisons, such as deliberate restrictions on access to medical care, clean water, and communication with families.
This action by the UN underscores the international community’s strong commitment to addressing human rights violations in Iran and pressuring the regime to halt its systematic abuses.
