War and execution, two sides of the same coin
On Tuesday, June 23, 2025, amidst escalating regional tensions, severe repression, and widespread internet shutdowns, prisoners across 47 prisons in Iran marked the 74th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. Their ongoing act of defiance underscores a terrifying reality for those unjustly incarcerated.
In their powerful statement this week, the prisoners voiced profound concern over the dramatic surge in executions and the rapidly deteriorating conditions faced by inmates, particularly in Evin Prison.
The statement declared:
“War and execution are two sides of the same coin—both represent killing and oppression by governments. Given the current war situation, prisoners’ lives are in serious danger.”
Statement of prisoners – 74th Week of “No to Execution Tuesdays”
In our previous statement during the 73rd week of our campaign, we unequivocally stated that war and execution are two sides of the same coin—both representing killing and oppression carried out by governments. We issued a stark warning that prisoners’ lives were in imminent danger and anticipated a horrific escalation in executions. Sadly, despite the regime’s desperate attempts to silence information through internet shutdowns, news reaching us tragically confirms that our warnings have proven accurate.
We express our profound concern over the perilous situation of prisoners, especially those held in Evin Prison and those facing execution, whose whereabouts and conditions remain unknown due to arbitrary transfers and intensified security measures. We strongly condemn the sudden, forced transfers of defenseless prisoners under such oppressive and security-focused conditions.
Given the dire current war circumstances, the lives of prisoners are gravely at risk. Therefore, we issue an urgent call to the honorable people of Iran: demand prisoners’ freedom by all means available. We specifically urge citizens not to abandon prisoners during this critical period, encouraging them to gather in front of prisons in solidarity to amplify our collective voice.
