“Dear people of the world, do you hear my voice? My name is Ali Deris, the eldest son of Abbas and Kafayah. When my mother received the news about the looming death penalty for my father, she suffered a stroke and left us in pain and fear. My father is innocent, imprisoned, and in danger of death. My brothers Mehdi, Mohammad, and I wonder: is this world really so cruel that it can watch idly as we lose our father too? We appeal to all organizations, governments, kind-hearted people of the world, and even the children of this world to help save my father from execution. It’s horrifying. Help us so that my father can come home.”
Ali Deris, 16 years old
Dear friends, you may have often heard of the bravery of Iranian women and men, of human rights activists, many of whom are imprisoned and face the death penalty. But less is known about what happens to their children and their future.
Thank you for your attention. The Iranian people will not forget your help.
With kind regards,

...and this is my beloved family – I am Ali.
The letter from Ali Deris echoes the hearts of many children across Iran. Abbas is the father of Mohammad (8), Mehdi (12), and Ali (16). The reason for his arrest: he was a witness to the massacre of demonstrators who were trapped in 2019, cold-bloodedly shot outside the city of Mahshahr. This atrocity by the Iranian regime sparked international condemnation. His conscience did not allow him to stay silent about this crime, even though he loves his young family dearly. He has now been sentenced to death. The news was so devastating that Abbas’s wife suffered a stroke and died.
Maryam’s Story
On a cold and rainy night, Maryam was arrested, and Sarah, only three and a half years old, was forcibly separated from her mother. Since then, Sarah and her two sisters eagerly await the day they can hug their mother again. Maryam Akbari is a courageous mother imprisoned for seeking justice for the wrongful execution of her sister and three brothers in the 1980s. Her life remains in constant danger. Yet Maryam believes in a shared future with her children. We can make this dream a reality…
Iran’s Forgotten Children in the Shadow of Pain and Suffering
According to official regime media reports from March 2024:
- At least 3.2 million children have dropped out of school.
- The number of working children in Iran is estimated at 2.1 million.
- Some working children are under the age of 5.
- About 3.5 million children live in impoverished areas.
- There are reports of thousands of imprisoned parents in Iran.
Many children, like Ali, Mehdi, and Sarah, dream of seeing their parents again. Let’s make these dreams come true together. They call : Do not execute our father…
Children are our future. Experience has shown that the support of the public and the international community can change the fate of these families. With 20 years of experience and international campaigns, we can free Ali and other children from their nightmare and give them a future. Together, we can do it!
Success
Maryam Mehrabi, a scientific researcher, was arrested solely for trying to prevent the execution of her brother Mahmoud, a human rights activist. Thanks to international campaigns and your support, dear friends, Maryam was released in November. Her two young daughters, Setareh and Sogol, who had little hope of seeing their mother again, are now joyfully reunited with her.
