Good news: death sentence of Abbas Korkor overturned by supreme court

The death sentence of Abbas (Majahid) Korkor, a prisoner held in Sheiban Prison, Ahvaz, has been overturned by Iran’s Supreme Court. His case has now been referred for retrial to an equivalent branch, marking a crucial step toward justice and fairness.

This development comes after sustained international campaigns and persistent advocacy efforts by organizations, including Verein Welle, which has been actively campaigning to stop his execution. These campaigns brought global attention to Majahid Korkor’s case and highlighted the need for a fair and transparent legal process.

Majahid Korkor’s legal team had previously submitted requests for retrial and invoked Article 477 of the Iranian Penal Code. Following the acceptance of these requests, the Supreme Court reexamined the case and ultimately annulled his death sentence.

While the annulment of his execution verdict does not guarantee his complete freedom, it represents a significant victory for justice and a critical milestone in the ongoing fight to prevent unjust executions.

This achievement reaffirms the importance of international solidarity and the power of advocacy in influencing legal outcomes. The fight to save lives and ensure fair trials continues, offering hope to countless individuals facing similar threats.

Let us celebrate this step forward and remain committed to the cause of justice and the protection of human rights everywhere.
