We are pleased to announce that on Sunday, October 13, 2024, the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a political prisoner and labor activist held in Lakan Prison in Rasht, has been overturned due to international pressure. Sharifeh was arrested by security forces on December 5, 2023, and spent several months in solitary confinement under intense pressure.
Initially charged with “propaganda against the regime”, Sharifeh’s case escalated to a charge of “rebellion against God”, which led to a death sentence—a ruling that put her life and her family in grave danger.
International advocacy and hope for change
Thanks to the efforts of human rights activists, advocates, and international campaigns, Sharifeh’s execution order has been halted, bringing renewed hope to those fighting for the abolition of the death penalty in Iran.
This victory serves as a reminder of the power of global advocacy and the impact of collective action in saving lives and challenging unjust rulings.
