Vigil in Geneva, Stop Executions in Iran

On February 24, volunteers from Verein Welle and freedom-loving exiled Iranians held a vigil and human rights exhibition at Place des Nations in front of the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. This event was part of a worldwide campaign to stop executions in Iran, drawing attention to the imminent execution threats faced by Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, along with many other imprisoned human rights activists sentenced to death by Iran’s brutal clerical regime.

The Geneva vigil was one of many demonstrations held worldwide, as activists, human rights organizations, and Iranian communities across Europe, North America, and beyond joined forces to amplify a singular message:

Executions in iran

From Berlin to London, Paris, voices were raised in solidarity with Iranian political prisoners. Protesters worldwide called on their governments, the United Nations, and international institutions to take immediate and decisive action against Iran’s state-sanctioned killings.

At the Geneva vigil, a powerful exhibition displayed images of past execution victims alongside portraits of prisoners currently facing the gallows. Bijan, a survivor of the 1988 massacre in Iran, shared his harrowing testimony about the regime’s ongoing human rights atrocities and delivered the vigil participants’ unified demand to the UN:

A Wake-Up Call for Geneva’s Citizens

As people passed through Place des Nations, many stopped, visibly shaken by the harrowing reality of Iran’s human rights crisis. Geneva residents expressed deep solidarity, engaging with activists, signing petitions, and voicing their support for an end to executions and dictatorship in Iran.

The worldwide campaign against executions, strengthened by ongoing vigils like the one in Geneva, ensures that Iran’s crimes remain in the international spotlight. These efforts pressure UN institutions and global leaders to take meaningful action.

With relentless advocacy and widespread public awareness, Verein Welle continues to push United Nations representatives and international organizations to fulfill their responsibility and demand an end to Iran’s state-sanctioned killings.

🚨 Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani are in imminent danger. Their death sentences have been confirmed by Iran’s Supreme Court, and their execution could happen at any moment.

In response, on February 26, Verein Welle submitted an urgent appeal to Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other key UN institutions. The appeal demands immediate intervention to halt the executions and pressure Iran’s regime to respect fundamental human rights.

A Worldwide Movement for Justice

This global campaign against executions in Iran is a testament to the power of international solidarity. From the streets of Geneva to capitals across the world, activists are refusing to let these crimes go unnoticed.
