Secret Execution of Political Prisoner Reza Rasaei

In the early morning of August 6, 2024, Reza Rasaei, a Kurdish political prisoner, was secretly executed at the Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah. Rasaei, 34 years old, was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 and convicted of “Moharebeh” (enmity against God)—a charge frequently used by the Iranian regime to suppress dissent.

A brutal and hidden execution

Reza Rasaei’s family was informed of his execution only after the fact, and they were forbidden from burying him in his hometown. Rasaei, an active participant in the 2022 protests, was repeatedly subjected to severe torture during his imprisonment. His toes and ribs were broken to force a confession.

Calls for justice and international response

This secret execution highlights the systematic human rights violations in Iran. International human rights organizations and the United Nations are urged to condemn this shocking act and take action to stop the ongoing bloodshed.

The Iranian Ahl-e Haqq minority, to which Reza Rasaei belonged, is not recognized as an independent religion under the country’s constitution, and its members are deprived of many political and social rights. Rasaei’s treatment underscores the brutal oppression of minorities in Iran and the urgent need for international intervention.
