In the recent wave of protests in Iran, over 30,000 demonstrators have been arrested, with at least 2,000 facing imminent execution. The nationwide protests against the fundamentalist and misogynistic Mullah regime have persisted since September 16, 2022, despite brutal repression. The Iranian populace, led by women and youth, continues to bravely advocate for human rights, the rights of religious and ethnic minorities, and freedom for all Iranians.
- Since the onset of protests in September 2022, the Iranian regime has intensified its crackdown, leading to mass arrests and death sentences.
- The regime is exploiting the new crisis in the Middle East to execute a massacre on the Iranian population, hoping to quell the growing civil movement.
- Many young protesters are now facing death sentences or have been taken to undisclosed locations, putting their lives in grave danger.
- Urgent Measures for Toomaj Salehi: The 33-year-old artist and political prisoner Toomaj Salehi, a mechanical engineer and popular rapper known for his critical songs against the regime, was sentenced to death on April 24. His sentence is not yet final, and immediate action is crucial to save his life.
- International Campaigns: Verein Welle has launched an international campaign involving vigils, public awareness efforts, and appeals to high-ranking human rights officials to prevent the execution and torture of detained protesters, especially women and youth.
“THESE SHOCKING CRIMES MUST BE STOPPED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!”
A large number of prisoners who have been imprisoned for more than 10 years, as well as hundreds of protesters in various cities in Kurdistan and other provinces of Iran, have been arrested under various pretexts and taken to the dreaded Qezal Hesar prison in Karadj, where the minimum requirements for hygiene, nutrition and humane accommodation are lacking.
This regime executed more than 850 prisoners in 2023.
Advocacy and Public Awareness
- Conducting vigils and public demonstrations to draw international attention to the plight of Iranian prisoners.
- Collaborating with global human rights organizations to amplify the call for immediate action against executions.
Legal and Diplomatic Efforts
- Submitting detailed reports and evidence to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council.
- Engaging in continuous lobbying and diplomatic efforts to apply international and legal pressure on the Iranian regime.
- Mohammad Javad Vafaei: The 27-year-old was arrested for participating in protests in Mashhad and subjected to 65 days of physical and psychological torture. A boxing champion and school teacher, Vafaei’s life was saved through international campaigns and condemnations by Nobel laureates and prominent figures.
We must continue to exert international and legal pressure to stop the Iranian regime’s execution plans. Continuous campaigns and public awareness are vital in binding the regime’s hands and saving lives.
