Every year on December 10th, the world comes together to observe International Human Rights Day—a day dedicated to the universal rights that every individual, regardless of race, gender, or background, is entitled to. This year, as we reflect on the state of human rights worldwide, we cannot ignore the alarming situation in Iran.
In 2024 alone, over 550 individuals have been executed by the Iranian regime. Among them are political prisoners and innocent women who dared to demand their basic rights—rights as fundamental as the freedom to speak, to think, and to live with dignity. These executions are not just numbers; they represent silenced voices, shattered families, and a society living in fear.
We stand in solidarity with those who have been unjustly imprisoned, tortured, and sentenced to death. Women, who have been at the forefront of advocating for change, are particularly targeted—stripped of their most basic rights and often facing death for acts as simple as protesting.
As advocates for human rights, we are reminded of the powerful words of Mahatma Gandhi, who said:
“You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no result.”
Let us also draw strength from the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who declared:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
These words urge us to act. They remind us that standing against injustice in Iran—or anywhere in the world—is not just an option, but a moral obligation.
